The Garvan Genomics Platform assists in realizing this mission by providing accredited Cellular Genomics, Spatial and NGS services to medical researchers utilizing state-of-the-art sequencing & bioinformatics technologies, supported by industry-leading laboratory automation and high-performance computing infrastructure.THE OPPORTUNITYThe R&D Scientist will work on the identification, development, and validation of new protocols and service offerings and continuous improvements in the Next Generation and Single Cell and Spatial Laboratories through process review, improvement identification, and stakeholder engagement.We are seeking an experienced scientist who is an innovative, creative, and proactive problem solver with excellent communication and management skills.The successful candidate is expected to work independently and actively utilize their experience and expertise across multiple functions to enable the laboratory to meet its strategic goals.Salary:$90,000 + 11.5% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)Employment Type:Full-time 2-year term contractSNAPSHOT OF BENEFITSGenerous salary packaging to save you income tax on your wages thereby boosting your monthly take-home pay (max.$15,900 general expenses + $2,650 meals/entertainment)Ample opportunities for ongoing training and developmentStimulating, diverse, and highly international research environmentFlexible work arrangements e.g.start/finish times18 weeks paid parental leave for both parents including paid superannuationA range of additional leave types to meet your personal needs including cultural leave, conference leave, community service, and study leaveDiscounted Health InsuranceLifestyle discounts with our community partnersWHAT YOU WILL DOThe key responsibilities include:As an R&D team member, contribute to the design, validation, and implementation of new molecular assays/workflows in NGS, Cellular Genomics, and Spatial technologies.Contribute to improvement of projects in the lab including, but not limited to, streamlining of current procedures, development of new QC procedures, introduction of new equipment or methods, and LIMS workflow management.Participate and coordinate investigations to troubleshoot existing methods and processes as required within the Platform and work cross-functionally with the bioinformatics team to achieve a resolution.Design and complete projects for internal/external clients.Development, execution, and reporting of project plans for the validation/verification of new methods, tests, and equipment.Help to ensure the laboratory activities are compliant with NATA regulations and ISO17025, where relevant, by following SOPs and reviewing controlled documents.Assist Platform staff in keeping up to date with new technologies and undertake horizon scanning for upcoming equipment and protocols.Other duties as assigned.ABOUT YOUBachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related field and 3 -
