Role The successful applicant will be responsible in assisting the catering manager to provide meals for students as part of the schools curriculum delivery model. The successful applicant may, at times, be required to work in support of teaching staff as part of the broader programs of the school with students. The Catering Assistant will report directly to the catering manager, in their absence they will report to the Campus Principal or nominee. Responsibilities To support the adherence to all Health Department, Local Council, DET and OH&S regulations at all times. This will include but is not limited to: Maintaining all food preparation, cooking, storage and serving areas and all equipment and utensils in a condition that meets all health and hygiene regulations. Ensuring that all areas of the Catering area are hygienically clean at all times. Supporting the maintenance of all required data logging including but not limited to cleaning schedules, temperature controls, stock control. Meet all requirements and practices of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and to ensure that safe work practices are adhered to in the performance of all duties. Assist the catering manager in effectively providing meals in support of the schools curriculum, vision and mission.Through collaboration with Catering Manager and/or Campus Principal Ensure menus and provision of meals are nutritious, meet sustainability criteria and provide for client dietary needs including cultural, medical and dietary needs Complete general stock based tasks e.g. receiving, unpacking and storing kitchen deliveries. Provide support and assistance to students and visiting teachers as required Removal of all waste and packaging to approved locations. Supervision of students is an integral part of this employee's position as it may involve supervision of students individually or in small groups, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher. Supervision and school operation hours are 24 hours a day and may include weekends. The successful candidate should hold or be willing to gain a food safety supervisor qualification or equivalent and a first aid qualification. The school provides education programs in the outdoors that develop an enhanced understanding of self and others, and the skills required to contribute to a positive community and a sustainable environment. Rubicon Outdoor School is committed to maintaining a Child Safe environment. School groups are booked throughout the school calendar year with most students attending for a five day period. The catering team support the educational objectives and values of the school by providing nutritious and engaging meals to students throughout their time at the school, supporting healthy habits and exposure for some students to a week of improved food security. Standard school programs are Monday to Friday, however, programs do vary in length from half day to five days. Approximately 2000 students visit the campus each year. This position is based at our Thornton Campus and the prefered work schedule will be Monday, Wednesday, Fridays during school term time.
