The Clinical Forensic Medicine Unit are seeking Clinical Nurses (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner - SANE) with 5 years experience to fill future vacancies. Roles to be filled through this recruitment process will be of a casual nature.
The casual CN/SANE will provide forensic sexual assault examinations to victims of sexual assault. The CN/SANE will also be responsible for the provision of medical services to inmates at the Townsville Watch house. CFMU nurses attend the watch house daily and undertake assessment of prisoners and coordinate care, treatment and referral of those that require medical attention in consultation with the Metro North Virual Emergency Department Medical Officer.
Additional duties of this role include assistance with paediatric forensic examinations at CFMU and the collection of blood and urine specimens for Magistrate Approved Disease Test Orders.
The successful applicant must have a minimum of 5 years post graduate experience.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Nursing: Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
2. Previous experience in Sexual Health / Mental Health / Emergency Department desirable.
3. Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
4. Successful completion of/ or working towards completion of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) course provided by Forensic Medicine Queensland (FMQ). This includes completion of the online component of the course and attendance at a two day workshop in Brisbane. Funding for the SANE course will be include the course cost and travel.
5. Appropriate credentialing of the CN/SANE in sexual assault examinations will be provided by the CNC/FNE CFMU.
6. Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster. The CN/SANE will be required to contribute to the cover of the 24/7 on call CFMU roster including weekend cover and, weekday leave cover of permanent staff when required.
7. Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required.
8. The applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, including the Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Matrix and Power Point.
9. This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
