HNELHD Staff Specialist in General Surgery - Armidale Rural Referral HospitalThe Surgical Unit of Armidale Rural Referral Hospital is seeking to appoint a Staff Specialist in General Surgery to its expanding Department.
Surgical services include general, orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology and ophthalmology.
The hospital is spacious, modern, and well-equipped with the most recent development opening in 2019.
You will join an experienced team of General Surgeons well supported by a junior team comprising of 3 Registrars and 1 Resident Medical Officer.
You will provide services for Armidale Rural Referral Hospital and outreach services to surrounding District Hospitals.
The on-call roster is 1:4 with optionality for private practice with Armidale Private Hospital.

A busy emergency department, a Level 3 Close Observation Unit, mental health unit, and renal dialysis unit.
The referral community of the area is 55,200.
Adult Medical services include respiratory, cardiac, chemotherapy, renal and palliative care.

The Tablelands Clinical School is part of the UON and UNE Joint Medical Program.
Medical students undertake clinical placements and attend teaching at the clinical school which is exceptionally well resourced with simulation laboratories and tutorial rooms.

Mandatory Requirements Of This Role IncludeAdmitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD.Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and whilst on-call including clinical handover, clinical supervision, teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD.Provision of education and research as determined and required by HNELHD.A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (General Surgery) and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.Demonstrated current and senior level leadership experience in the field of General Surgery.Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate models of service delivery, coordinate services, allocate resources, negotiate with stakeholders and monitor service delivery to ensure that services are delivered in alignment with organisational goals.Demonstrate the capability to teach and train effectively at all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate education and where required lead the department through successful accreditation.Evidence of being a highly skilled communicator, including both oral and written skills, communicating with colleagues, management, patients, students, other health professionals and the public.Evidence of being a high-level collaborator, including the ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders in a variety of settings.Evidence of being a leader, including ability to be flexible and cope with a changing health system, past leadership and management experience and previous safety and quality improvement activities.Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance with detailed knowledge of, and experience in governance and clinical risk management principles and practices to achieve goals of the organisation.Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) is dedicated to fostering a child-safe environment that respects and upholds the rights of children and young people, aligned with NSW Health's commitment to implementing the Child Safe Standards.
