Hybrid - work from home initially until an office in Perth is established.
$100,000 per annum pro-rata at 0.8FTE ($80,000 equivalent). Superannuation paid in addition to the salary at the level determined by the Superannuation Guarantee Act.

Key External relationships: Seesaw stakeholders including government funders, corporate partners, donors, arts organisations, artists, subscribers, advertisers.
This is a new and exciting opportunity to lead the resurgence of Seesaw, WA's independent online arts and culture magazine.
The successful candidate will work in close collaboration and consultation with the Seesaw Board in providing consistent and timely progress towards achieving Seesaw's vision, purpose and strategic objectives.
We are looking for someone with a passion for journalism and arts, culture and creativity, who wants to help shape debate and conversations about our unique part of the world.
This is a role that spans Seesaw's financial and operational management, editorial direction and content production. There will be a strong development focus on sourcing income from multiple sources to support our editorial activities. The imperative is to drive audience growth and engagement, revenue opportunities, and innovation.
The Business and Editorial Manager will be responsible for the overall sound management of the organisation, with a special regard for Seesaw's financial and cultural sustainability as a platform for excellence in arts journalism in WA.
The Business and Editorial Manager with support from the Finance Manager and Editorial committee (including a senior contributing writer and board member), will report to the Seesaw Board of Directors.
About Seesaw: Seesaw – Western Australia's premier online arts magazine – was founded in 2017 and associated as a not-for-profit organisation in 2019.
Our purpose is to produce quality, independent, professional arts journalism for the benefit of all Western Australian artists, companies, audiences and the wider public.
Our work also plays a vital role in informing policy makers, government funding bodies and their peer assessors, sponsors and philanthropists. Seesaw is the arts sector's solution to declining arts coverage everywhere.
Key responsibilities: Leadership: In conjunction with the Board, develop, implement and review strategic and operational plans to ensure Seesaw is achieving its purpose and agreed KPIs. Ensure Seesaw representation at, and contribution to strategically relevant sector and community forums. Provide arts, culture and creative sector thought-leadership including talks, workshops and external communications. Build and maintain key external relationships with arts and culture organisations, government, philanthropic and corporate supporters. Be an advocate for the Seesaw brand and advance its positioning as the premier media platform for quality independent arts and culture journalism in WA. Governance and Compliance: Report to the Board of Directors and prepare high quality agendas and papers for all Board meetings. Ensure reporting to key stakeholders including government funding requirements are met in a timely manner. Ensure all legal and legislative compliance is completed in a timely manner and that the Board is informed of relevant compliance deadlines and responsibilities. In conjunction with the Chair and Treasurer, review and implement best practice governance and financial practices and procedures. Editorial: Inspire, initiate and develop ideas into compelling, agenda-setting stories and other content. Write and edit content including news, reviews, and feature pieces. Develop and commission contributors, and mentor diverse and emerging new voices. Liaise with publicists, marketing personnel, arts and culture organisations and artists to secure access to content. Maintain website in liaison with contractors as required. Subject to funding, expand scope of multi-media coverage for wide audience appeal. Marketing and Promotion: Assist to develop, implement and monitor effective marketing plans that enhance the Seesaw brand and deliver on agreed revenue and readership targets. Ensure the production and distribution of regular subscriber newsletters and other communications to grow audiences and deepen their engagement. Promotion of Seesaw activities via social media and partner channels. Monitor audience feedback, analytics, and industry trends to refine content calendar. Business Operations and Development: Implement strategic and business plans. Develop and manage annual and project budgets. Oversee financial management and reporting, with the support of the Finance Manager. Identification of government funding opportunities and preparation, management and acquittal of funding submissions. In collaboration with the Board, identify and develop new income streams, including corporate and philanthropic partnerships. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE: Demonstrated high-level editorial skills, including writing and editing, content planning, legal awareness and commitment to style and accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated high-level financial, administration and organisation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently with initiative and collaboratively as part of a team. A capacity to work flexible hours in line with attendance at events outside of normal business hours. Demonstrated experience in and/or understanding of marketing and communications, across media and social media platforms. A passion for WA arts and culture and an understanding of the wider creative sector. Tertiary qualifications in Business, Journalism/Communications, Arts Management or equivalent experience.
