The Company:
Paraway Pastoral currently operates 29 agricultural enterprises across a number of diversified climatic zones and a range of country types. Collectively the properties have the capacity to carry over 220,000 cattle and 250,000 sheep across its portfolio, as well as a mixture of dryland and irrigated cropping. Their primary goal is to be a consistent, reliable supplier of quality produce, while operating a sustainable business that targets long-term returns while effectively managing short-term risks.
The Position:
Tanbar Station is a large-scale cattle growing operation on the Cooper Creek in the Channel Country of Western Queensland and is an important part of the success of Paraway’s Northern breeding operations. Tanbar consists of 1 million hectares to the SW of Windorah and also includes the outstation of Mt Howitt. The Cooper Creek flows through Tanbar and floods out a significant portion of the property each year, as well as feeding into the ephemeral lake Yamma Yamma, providing a natural irrigation system for pasture production.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Station Manager is accountable for managing the operations of the station with the following key responsibilities:
1. Contribute to the economic performance of the station
2. Maintain company records
3. Recruit & manage station staff
4. Promote company policies & manage staff training
5. Manage animal husbandry programs, livestock & other inventory records
6. Ensure WHS policies and procedures are implemented, actioned & continually improved
7. Manage the environmental & natural resources of the station
8. Implement risk management strategies for child protection & intervention
9. Display strong leadership at all times and lead by example
The Person:
We are keen to hear from you if you possess the following key skills, experience and attributes:
1. Extensive experience in livestock, pasture and water management ideally gained in a Northern Australian livestock production system
2. Knowledge of market specifications and ability to draft livestock according to these
3. Sound knowledge of implementing company policies and procedures
4. Ability to implement training programs and company policies
5. Sound people management & leadership skills
6. Mature and rational approach to problem solving
7. Proven ability to plan and execute budgets and business plans
8. Well organised with sound communication skills
9. Computer knowledge, intermediate level skill in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Certificates and Qualifications:
1. Current First Aid certificate
2. Current unencumbered ordinary drivers licence (heavy vehicle licence where applicable)
3. Firearms licence class A and B
4. Chemical Users Accreditation
5. Blue Card if in QLD
