At the ACCC, we believe the best version of you is the one that’s true to who you are – and that’s the you we want working alongside us.We value flexibility, and all roles can be performed from any capital city in a state or territory or Townsville and are available on a full-time, part-time or job-share basis.Applicants from diverse backgrounds including First Nations peoples, people with disability and those from different cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.What you will do as an Assistant DirectorAs an Assistant Director you will lead and help to manage staff and teams to deliver any of the following types of activity:Regulatory interventions – making recommendations to the Minister for regulatory action, including to issue or substantially update a product safety standard, ban, compulsory recall or safety warning notice.Research & Intelligence – manage a range of internal and external intelligence resources and conduct research, analysis and consultation to prepare reports and recommendations that inform risk mitigation strategies to address product safety hazards.Policy and advocacy – working with other Australian Consumer Law regulators, specialist product safety regulators and Treasury to advocate for reform and clarify roles/responsibilities within the product safety regulatory framework.Project management – designing, executing and evaluating initiatives within budgets and timeframes aimed at addressing a product safety hazard or internal business need.About youIn order to succeed in the role, you will have:Experience in a relevant field such as law, regulation, compliance, economics, public policy, communications, project management, health, or intelligence.Demonstrated managerial experience in a team, working with a high level of autonomy under broad direction helping to deliver quality outputs on time across any of the following fields: policy, advocacy, research, market studies, education, communications, compliance, reports triaging, investigations, surveillance, auditing, corporate activity, systems and data, project management and stakeholder management.Proven ability to undertake objective, systematic research and analysis to draw accurate conclusions, critically assess and support evidence-based decision making.Highly effective written communication skills preparing high quality documentation such as correspondence, reports, internal papers and briefs, legal documents, and external-facing material such as consumer and industry guidance.Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to influence, negotiate and work collaboratively with team members and internal and external stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire others to create an environment that fosters teamwork and innovation.The following criterion is desirable for role/s only in the Risk Assessment and Operations Branch:Certificate IV and/or Diploma in Government Investigations. Depending on the nature of the work, for instance an investigative role, some successful candidates who do not have this qualification will be expected to obtain it within 6 months of commencing (funded and arranged by the ACCC).As noted, this role may involve reviewing and analysing potentially traumatic material.
