About the role
The Fellow is primarily responsible for the daily care of acute surgical patients and the emergency operating theatre. The Fellow is also responsible for supervising trainees and junior doctors performing ward based or emergency department consultations. The Fellow will take part in a 24-hour on call (weekday and weekend) roster as the first point of contact, supported by a rostered-on call consultant, to facilitate the transition into independent specialist practice.
The role is suitable for a newly admitted Fellow into the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons seeking out acute and subacute general surgery exposure prior to commencing independent practice.

1. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with reference to effective communication and courtesy when interacting with patients, relatives, public health care colleagues.
2. A commitment to participate in on-going educational activities.
3. Sound theoretical knowledge, practical skills and ethical behaviour required of a medical practitioner in General Surgery.
4. To comply with and utilise contemporary human resource managements and practices, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policies.
5. Demonstrated honesty, integrity, and respect for all patients, carers, and staff.
