In December 2024, we commenced providing health, mental health and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team, which includes nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals, offer a wide range of healthcare services to detainees, such as triaging, medication, wound management, immunisation, and other clinical procedures. HCA also introduced a Virtual Care Centre (VCC), a 24/7 service that provides remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations, helping to enhance onsite care for detainees.
Job Description
This is a permanent full-time opportunity as Registered Nurse (Mental Health), based at Villawood - NSW 2163 (we are open to part time if that suits you)
As Registered Nurse (Mental Health) you will provides clinical and mental health support for people in detention with mental health presentations including complexity and risk, development of mental health recovery plans, medication management, referrals and discharge planning. The Mental Health Nurse will work closely with the multidisciplinary team, and relevant key stakeholders to facilitate the provision of coordinated mental health care and treatment.

* Participate in the assessment, planning and implementation of care based on individual detainee needs incorporating a holistic, recovery orientated approach to mental health care and service delivery
* Ensure accuracy and maintenance of medical records is compliance with professional standards.
* Provide mental health interventions relating to the management of mental health symptoms, physical health monitoring whilst initiating treatment and therapeutic interventions, as clinically indicated.
* Participate in initial and periodic clinical assessment of patients, including Fit to Travel (FTT)

Qualifications

* Current AHPRA Registration as Registered Nurse (Division 1)
* Current First Aid & BLS Certification
* It is an important criteria for this Commonwealth project that you have 5+ years RN experience or under the terms of our contract with the Department of Home Affairs our talented RN’s must have 5 years of nursing experience prior to joining.
* Credentialed with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN); OR minimum qualification of Graduate Diploma Mental Health Nursing; OR undergraduate trained Mental Health Nurse (UK); OR trained and registered as a Psychiatric Nurse / Mental Health Nurse.
