Office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General – Canberra ACT The Strategic Engagement Branch provides direct support to the Governor-General through the management, planning, and delivery of the forward program of national and international engagements. This position at the GHO6/GHO7 classification (APS6/EL1 equivalent), commensurate with experience, is responsible for planning and delivering individual events and regional programs, providing support and advice to key internal and external stakeholders, and contributing to longer-term planning. The role also includes administration and governance responsibilities as well as leadership opportunities. This role requires a highly motivated, energetic, and results-driven person with demonstrated experience in events, hospitality, project planning, and/or stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will work as part of a small, collaborative team to support the Governor-General. The key duties of the position include:Work with other members of the team to plan and deliver the Governor-General's forward program of events and engagement. Be responsible for delivering individual events and regional/international programs to agreed standards. Liaise with external stakeholders (including a diverse range of community organisations and government departments) to ensure clear understanding of time frames, background, format, and other requirements of events and engagement involving or hosted by the Governor-General. Prepare accurate, timely, and concise written and verbal event briefings (and other related material) for internal and external audiences. Assist in the ongoing review and improvement of the Governor-General's events and engagement through collecting and considering guest and stakeholder feedback, personal observations, and other performance information. Selection Criteria Experience in designing, planning, and delivering events and engagements, including the development of event timelines. Highly developed organisational skills, including proven ability to effectively manage multiple activities and balance competing tasks. Demonstrated skills in establishing rapport and building relationships with stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including attention to detail and the ability to prepare a range of briefing material. Strong administrative and time management skills, including the ability to work to deadlines. Ability to foster an inclusive, positive, and safe workplace culture that encourages creativity and celebrates outcomes. A relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in event or program management, customer service, community engagement, or business. Availability to work after hours and on weekends to support the Governor-General's program, including likelihood of domestic and international travel.
