Broadly, the purpose is to build and enhance the WHS elements of the business by nurturing the development of people and teams, and to lead the strategic expansion and improvement of the function.The role will be responsible for planning, integrating, monitoring and optimising operational processes within the areas of health protection and safety by providing hands-on coaching and supportive advice, management of key operational risks increasing the WHS capability.The role has multiple direct reports which are geographically dispersed throughout Australia and requires routine travel across Australia.Duties include but are not limited to:LeadershipContribute as a member of the executive leadership team (ELT) and uphold the core business valuesNurture, coach, develop and direct your team to ensure high levels of performance and engagement, and facilitate their professional developmentDevelop strong relationships across the business including ELT members and their senior direct reports.Develop key external relationships and liaise with networks outside the businessIntegrate material WHS risks and opportunities within the business strategy.Workplace Health and Safety Management SystemsEnsure consistency of WHS practices, policies, and procedures across the business in line with global best practice frameworks and standardsOversee the implementation and maintenance of the WHS Management System and reporting requirementsEnsure the WHS Management System enables compliance with Safety Legislation and regulations when implemented across the organisation including relevant industry standards, procedures, and risk management processesEnsure partnership with the organisation's leaders to develop, implement, and continuously improve WHS strategies, culture, and decisions to drive WHS functional excellence across the business.Develop long-range plans for WHS to support continual improvement of WHS with Risk Owners to integrate this into long-range financial planning.Openly monitor WHS performance against clear objectives and performance targets and work with risk owners to maintain, develop or improve performance in line with the risk appetite of the businessCommunication and ReportingProduce and present regular reports on WHS and Workers Compensation performance against KPIs for management and the board within an agreed timeline, according to established WHS disclosure frameworks and standards of professionalismPromote open and effective communication throughout the business so as to provide timely and considered feedback against strategyEnsure the Company continues to build a solid culture in relation to working practices and processesEssential Criteria, Skills and ExperienceTertiary qualifications with experience in workplace health & safety managementDemonstrated experience in developing and implementing WHS projects, management systems and processes to impact culture, processes and performance.Proficient with business software and analytical tools.Demonstrated experience in Safety Management, including risk management, compliance auditing and development of best practice monitoring systemsStrong coaching and facilitation skillsAbility to translate a strategic plan into a clear course of action, be the promoter of ownership and accountability to ensure that aspects are successfully delivered.Confidence in engaging with Executives, Board members and operational teams to coordinate best practice for a diverse workforce across multiple sitesExperience working across multiple Australian states including familiarity with the differing WHS regulations of each state and territory.Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret information across a range of activities.Demonstrated experience of managing a team and have excellent people management and leadership skills, including the ability to build and manage high-performance teamsValid driver's licenceWhat We Are OfferingEnjoy the variety of a rural and/or coastal lifestyle – this position can be located at any of our locations -
