Job Description Permanent role. Sydney based – flexible working. Play a key role in supporting the development, implementation, oversight and continuous improvement in the management of Sustainability risks across the Westpac Group. How will I help?In this role you will be involved in supporting the Group’s response to material sustainability risk issues, ensuring we continue to meet the evolving expectations of our stakeholders. This includes setting expectations for our management of sustainability risk through frameworks policies, supporting the execution of our sustainability strategy and delivering demonstrable improvement in the identification, measurement and management sustainability risk across the Group.Reporting to the Head of ESG Risk, in this role you will work closely with stakeholders across the Group and external partners in helping to ensure a market-leading approach to the Group’s sustainability risk agenda. You will be accountable for providing expert sustainability risk advice to stakeholders across the first and second line of risk management.
Additional accountabilities include:
Ensure the Sustainability Risk Management Framework and underlying policies provide consistent risk boundaries across the Group and support effective decision making. Provide effective oversight and challenge to ensure Sustainability Risk is being effectively managed across the Group. This may include Leading deep dive reviews of risk themes, providing specialist knowledge, insightful advice and challenge on remedial actions. Engaging with stakeholders across the business who have responsibilities / accountabilities for managing sustainability risk to ensure effective identification and management of the risk. Leveraging management information and available data to provide insights which influence decisions, optimise risk/reward balance and assist in achievement of business objectives, within risk appetite. Support emerging risk identification and management for sustainability-related risks.
Support change initiatives to deliver capability uplift, maturing risk management approaches in line with the Group’s Sustainability commitments, regulatory expectations and disclosure requirements. In conjunction with the Group Sustainability team and Divisional ESG teams, uplift the understanding, capability, monitoring and management of sustainability risks across the Group. To be successful you will be able to demonstrate most of the following:
Suitable relevant industry experience including in sustainability risk management. This may include experience in financial services, consulting or professional services capacity. Experience in international markets would be highly regarded. Demonstrated experience managing sustainability risk issues such as climate change, human rights risk (including modern slavery), natural capital and biodiversity risk. Knowledge of relevant regulatory and disclosure requirements including APRA’s climate related prudential expectations, Modern Slavery Act and Australian climate disclosure requirements (AASB S2). Strong conceptual skills, evident business acumen and excellent verbal and written communication capability with an ability to manage multiple stakeholders with differing views. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels and work collaboratively. Proven ability to work within a high performing team.
