About Us
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and supports community safety outcomes.
The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), and works collaboratively to manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities.
The QFD is focused on enhancing its relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through initiatives like the Path to Treaty and Closing the Gap.
Purpose of the Role
The Psychological and Support Services (PaSS) facilitates a holistic approach to the management of the psychological, emotional, and spiritual health and wellbeing of QFD members. The Fire and Emergency Support Services Network (FESSN) team collaborates with statewide stakeholders to deliver specialized prevention and intervention services, fostering a well-being focused culture.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, Psychological and Support Services, you will lead the implementation and delivery of mental health programs within specific regions, ensuring optimal mental health outcomes for department members. Responsibilities include providing leadership in delivering best practice mental health services and programs for staff, volunteers, and family members.
Key Requirements
Mandatory Requirements:
* Registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency; or
* Mental Health accredited member of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
Highly Desirable Requirements:
* Qualifications in a relevant field of post-graduate study (e.g., Organisational Psychology).
* Knowledge of Queensland Mental Health Service delivery, legislation, policies, and strategies.
* Experience leading a mental health service delivery team in a large government organization.
* Experience in developing and delivering evidence-based interventions for proactive mental health initiatives.
Your Key Accountabilities
You will be responsible for:
* Leading and managing the delivery of best practice mental health services and programs.
* Utilizing data to develop regional positive mental health plans with measurable outcomes.
* Collaborating with Program Managers for consistency and development of FESSN services statewide.
* Leading regional support networks and triaging crisis support.
* Delivering training, events, and workshops to promote positive outcomes.
* Preparing complex submissions, briefs, and reports related to psychological and support services.
* Establishing collaborative networks with internal and external stakeholders.
* Representing the department on committees and forums to promote wellbeing.
