Traineeships and Apprenticeships
Council hosts a number of technical trainees and apprentices, providing ongoing opportunities to our community in a variety of fields.
Traineeships and apprenticeships are great opportunities to gain valuable experience, skill development and career insights. They can help set you up for a long and rewarding career with Council and provide you with transportable industry skills and experience.

APPRENTICESHIPS
Certificate III Civil Construction:
The apprenticeship program in Certificate III Civil Construction at Ballina Shire Council provides a foundational education in civil engineering. This program equips individuals with the skills and qualifications needed to succeed in civil construction, contributing to the development and maintenance of critical community infrastructure. Upon successful completion of the Certificate III Civil Construction apprenticeship, apprentices can pursue various career pathways within the council Engineering Works Section, including roles such as Plant Operator, Plant Operator Specialist, and Roads and Construction Supervisor.
TRAINEESHIPS
Certificate III Water Industry Operations:
The Certificate III traineeship program focuses on developing essential skills and knowledge in water and wastewater operations. Trainees will gain hands-on experience in assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of crucial infrastructure related to drinking water, recycled water, and wastewater within the Ballina Shire. Upon successful completion of the Certificate III Water Industry Operations traineeship, individuals may pursue various career pathways for Ballina Shire Council, including roles such as, Wastewater Assistant, or Wastewater Officer, Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.
Certificate III Horticulture:
The Certificate III Horticulture traineeship program at Ballina Shire Council assists in maintaining and enhancing natural and recreational spaces. This program is designed to equip trainees with the specific skills and knowledge required to effectively contribute to the council's horticultural maintenance across parks, gardens, open spaces, and reserves. Completion of the traineeship will prepare you for various roles within Ballina Shire Council's horticulture team, such as Horticultural Labourer and Tradesperson, Plant Operator, Sports Field Maintenance Worker, or a supervisor.
