Senior Data Engineer
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join a rapidly growing data team in Auckland on a 12-month fixed term contract. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse and impactful projects across various industries, leveraging the latest technologies to deliver innovative data solutions. You will design, implement, and optimize scalable data solutions and focus on building high-performance data pipelines using Snowflake, dbt, and cloud-based data architectures (Azure & AWS).
In this role, you will:
* Design and optimize end-to-end data pipelines using Snowflake, dbt, and SQL to ensure efficiency and scalability.
* Manage cloud-based data environments, leveraging services such as Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage and Blob Storage.
* Develop ETL/ELT workflows with tools like Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue or Apache Airflow to enable seamless data integration.
* Support big data analytics by utilizing Azure Databricks, Apache Spark, and machine learning pipelines for AI-driven insights.
* Optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, security, and cost efficiency.
* Ensure data governance and compliance, maintaining data integrity, security, and regulatory standards.
* Automate CI/CD processes, implementing Git-based version control and deployment pipelines for efficient data solution rollouts.
* Collaborate with stakeholders, working closely with data analysts, data scientists, and business teams to drive data-driven decision-making.
Key Skills and Experience:
* 5+ years of experience in data engineering, focusing on cloud-based technologies.
* Expertise in Snowflake (schema design, tuning, cost management) and dbt (data modeling, transformation).
* Advanced SQL skills, including complex queries, performance tuning, and data warehousing.
* Strong experience with Azure data services (Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Azure Blob Storage).
* Hands-on experience with big data processing tools (Azure Databricks, Apache Spark, ML pipelines).
* Familiarity with data orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Prefect).
* Exposure to BI tools such as Looker and Power BI is a plus.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills, gathering requirements and advising on data strategies.
