About The Role
Reporting to an Assistant Crown Solicitor and as part of a larger team, the Special Counsel will work across a range of complex legal matters within the Native Title, Resources and Dispute Resolution branch of Crown Law.
Specifically, you will focus on advice work on large projects that will see you:
* Advising on native title aspects of projects of State significance including resources and mining, tourism, public housing, school and Olympics related developments.
* Advising on various resources and energy related legislation, including the Mineral Resources Act, Mineral and Energy Resources (Common Provisions) Act, Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act, Environmental Protection Act, the Native Title Act, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act.
* Providing advice and representation on Federal Court and Land Court proceedings involving resources, native title and cultural heritage matters.
Skills/Experience
To be considered for this role you will have:
* 6+ years' PAE in resources, energy, projects, property or native title.
* Strong advice writing skill ideally with demonstrated experience advising on large projects.
* Native title and cultural heritage exposure will be highly regarded.
* Experience advising government clients or working in the government will also be ideal.
* An engaging, customer centric, commercial approach with key stakeholders fostering effective relationships.
* Experience in mentoring and developing junior staff.
