Georges River Council has an exciting opportunity for a Curator to join our Museum and Gallery, based in Hurstville.
About the Role As a Curator, you will contribute to the Hurstville Museum & Gallery vision by providing expertise in the research and development of a dynamic and customer focused exhibition and program schedule that reflects the history, heritage and culture of the St George region.
As part of our Hurstville Museum & Gallery, you will manage the coordination of the Museum & Gallery exhibition schedule.
In this role you will develop, research, install, market and evaluate high quality travelling, temporary and permanent art and history exhibitions while creating opportunities for visitor engagement.
In this role as a Curator, you will work on exciting exhibitions for the community.
Hurstville Museum and Gallery presented Zoonoses by Dr Nicola Hooper where this show brought together art and science as it showcased creepy crawlies and rodents through the lens of beautiful lithographs, drawings and sculptures.
The Georges River Art Prize is a biennial art prize that provides an opportunity for artists from all over Australia to display their best work.
There are categories for painting and sculptural work, children and youth, and local artists.
The Georges River Art Prize is hosted by Hurstville Museum & Gallery and will take place in 2025.
What we Offer Temporary, Full time - 70 hours per fortnight (Till October 2025) Salary from $81,546.21 - $94,483.59 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation (dependant on the skills, qualifications and relevant experience of the suitable candidate) 9-day fortnight subject to operational requirements Health and Wellbeing paid leave Fitness Passport Program offering discounted membership for you and your family to selected facilities Employee Assistance Program Salary Packaging Options Employee Rewards Program Ongoing Education and Resources The successful candidate will have Tertiary qualifications in Museum Studies / Art Curatorship and or related fields Current Working with Children Check Demonstrated experience as a social history and visual arts curator with expertise and experience in developing high quality exhibitions Demonstrated ability to undertake primary research and handle historical enquiries Demonstrated experience in managing a budget Experience in managing projects, and leading and motivating teams Proven ability to work to deadlines Highly developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including effective negotiation, consultation and consensus building Experience in handling cultural and historical material and sensitivity when dealing with cultural issues Experience in the delivery and promotion of events Strong commitment to and proven ability to deliver a quality customer focused service Demonstrated ability to coach and guide others in developing and implementing innovative approaches Demonstrated commitment to EEO, WHS and the principles for a culturally diverse society Desirable Current NSW Drivers Licence (Class C) Experience working with a multicultural client base Current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification Ability to speak a relevant community language e.g., Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Greek If you have made a positive commitment to further your career and you possess the attributes located in the complete Position Description essential criteria, then please submit your application today.
