The Opportunity The Product Systems Engineer for the 9LV Combat Management System (CMS) is central to the development, integration, and performance optimization of this complex software-driven system, which functions as the command core for combat operations on naval vessels. Working within the Systems Engineering discipline, this role requires strong experience in complex software systems, with a focus on system architecture, software integration, and end-to-end system functionality. In this role, the Product Systems Engineer will analyse and implement solutions for the 9LV CMS, ensuring the CMS sub-system works seamlessly within the ship's overall combat system architecture. Responsibilities include: Decomposing and refining system requirements Defining Sub-System specifications Implementing rigorous integration and validation testing A key aspect of this role is designing and conducting tests across software-hardware interfaces and using performance diagnostics to validate system stability, response times, and overall reliability under simulated combat conditions. This position will involve collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing complex software system interfaces, ensuring robust data flow and compatibility between the CMS and other ship systems, such as sensors, weapons, and communication networks. The Product Systems Engineer will prepare and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including sub-system requirements, test cases, configuration records, and performance reports, supporting the software's lifecycle management and upgrades. Contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, the Product Systems Engineer will participate in software engineering best practices, including version control, automated testing, and documentation standards. What you need to succeed: We welcome candidates with skills and experience in systems engineering, including but not limited to: Between 5 – 10 years post-graduate experience in design/development of complex software systems with at least 2 years focused on Systems Engineering Tertiary qualifications in either Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics or Software Engineering Strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to work across multi-partnered programs Sound knowledge of System/Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) Background in product design in control systems and/or complex software systems Australian Citizenship, with the ability to obtain and retain an NV1/NV2 clearance Positions are based in Melbourne & Adelaide; candidates with out-of-state applications will need to be willing to relocate as FIFO options are not available for these roles.
