The Department of Health is seeking suitably qualified applicants for a Specialist Medical Practitioner to join the Alcohol and Drug Service.
The Role: Broad operational direction and support will be provided by the Area Manager ADS North and clinical Governance will be provided by the Clinical Director.
The Specialist Medical Practitioner - ADS will:
Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and with key stakeholders to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the public and private sector Pharmacotherapy Program. Provide specialist medical consultation/liaison services to medical practitioners, health professionals and generalist health providers, both in hospital and community settings in relation to the appropriate management of persons who have a substance use related problem. Provide clinical and other teaching to medical students, medical practitioners and other health professionals and non-professional groups. This includes training about harm minimisation principles and the assessment and prevention and treatment of alcohol and other drug dependence and related disabilities. Position Features: The position is based in Launceston and will be required to travel to the North West (in particular the ADS offices located in Ulverstone) on a regular basis. The position may also be based in Ulverstone, and regular travel to the North will be required. Travel to other towns and locations in the North and North East of Tasmania may also be required.
Details of appointment: Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible.

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022 In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year. Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum. Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid. Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum. Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate. Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as follows:
Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty. *Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment.
