Role Responsibilities
The Deputy Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the effective operation of cancer pharmacy services across the Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital (CMN) in collaboration with the Director of Pharmacy.
* Oversee the provision and maintenance of high quality, efficient and innovative cancer pharmacy services and operations.
* Manage a team of pharmacists, technicians and administration staff.
* Supervise daily operations and maintain appropriate staffing allocations for delivery of effective pharmaceutical care.
Duties
* Demonstrate commitment to education through attendance and participation at pharmacy department education sessions, relevant conferences and/or seminars.
* Ensure legislative requirements, accreditation standards and other relevant guidelines relating to the pharmacy service are implemented and adhered to.
* Ensure pharmacy services are provided in a manner to ensure patient safety with respect to medications is optimised.
* Work with the Director of Pharmacy and Hospital Executive to deliver goals of strategic business plans that meets both current and future needs.
* Scope, develop and implement innovative pharmacy practice and services across the organisation.
* Coordinate relevant business cases to support new roles and innovation.
* Facilitate upskilling of all team members to deliver safe and efficient care.
* Encourage pharmacists to develop an educational plan for recording Continuing Professional Development points for registration with AHPRA.
* Liaise with medical and other staff as appropriate in regard to therapy regimens, and to promote economical and appropriate drug usage throughout the hospital.
Requirements
* Registered as a practicing pharmacist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
* Post registration clinical or management/leadership qualifications or equivalent skills/experience.
* Extensive experience in hospital pharmacy practice, preferably in a large teaching hospital, including experience managing the provision of pharmacy services in accordance with National Safety and Quality Health Standards.
* Previous experience and clinical competency in supporting a Haematology/Medical Oncology service in the inpatient and/or outpatient setting.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to co-ordinate and develop high quality written guidelines, procedures, educational, research or business materials.
* Highly effective and demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to create opportunity and adapt communication styles/techniques.
