Surface Warfare Officers are pivotal leaders driving the future of the Navy's surface fleet. As a Surface Warfare Officer, you'll command and lead in Air, Surface, Mine, Anti-Submarine, Amphibious, and Navigation warfare operations across the maritime domain. Whether at sea or ashore, you'll be at the forefront, planning and executing military operations with precision and expertise, leveraging the full spectrum of ADF capabilities.
Your duties as a Junior (Foundation) Surface Warfare Officer include, but aren’t limited to:
1. Bridgemanship and navigation skills
2. Accountability for the safety of the ship
3. Understanding and use of machinery and the propulsion plant
4. Launching and recovering of the ship’s boats and aircraft
5. Contributing to whole ship warfare activities
6. Assisting in identifying advancing aircraft, submarines, and other warships
7. Warfare tactics, including evasive ship handling manoeuvres
8. Monitoring of ship safety during live weapons firings
Your training will equip you with all the experience you need to develop as a leader and have a broad understanding of everything that happens onboard a naval ship.
As an officer, you'll learn additional skills and duties to become highly trained and efficient in supporting the security and safety of the ship and personnel onboard. This involves providing leadership, management, administration and career advice to sailors and junior officers within your division.
