ABOUT THE ROLE
AMSA’s Operations division carries out a range of activities to ensure vessels are maintained in good condition and are operated safely by people with the required qualifications and skills. Our people undertake a range of targeted and reactive compliance functions, including communication and education, provision of information and advice, certification and monitoring activities, incident investigation and the issue of operational notices as the need arises.
Reporting to the Principal Regional Port Marine Surveyor, the Marine Inspector will have the opportunity to support the key initiatives of the region and provide input to broader strategies and goals. You will play an important and collaborative role as an ambassador for AMSA by sharing your knowledge and expertise to promote a safe culture within the maritime industry. Specifically, you will be responsible for conducting a range of field-based, face-to-face compliance activities, identifying unsafe practices and ensuring they are addressed appropriately.
ABOUT THE PERSON
To be successful in this position, you will have the following:
* Experience within a safety, compliance, or risk management position; ideally within the maritime industry
* A fast learner with a willingness to participate in development opportunities, with an ability to share these experiences across a team.
* Strong presentation skills and a passion for supporting a safety-first culture.
* Technically qualified with a current Australian driver’s license, as travel will be a requirement of this position.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
People who are successful in this position must have the following pre-requisites:
* A commercial maritime Certificate of Competency (minimum Master <45m (NC) or Marine Engine Drive Grade 1 (NC)) or equivalent, whether valid or not, or accreditation as an AMSA Accredited Surveyor; or a relevant equivalent maritime qualification with substantial experience in a safety/compliance/risk management position in the maritime industry;
* Knowledge of the domestic maritime safety regulation regimes including AMSA’s role and functions;
* Ability to hold and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC); and
* Hold and maintain a current driver’s licence.
