It provides intensive case management and assertive outreach support to disengaged learners to enable them to return to education. This program is delivered in partnership between Mallee Accommodation and Support Program and Mallee Family Care within the Mallee region and works closely with local schools and the Department of Education and Training (DET). The Caseworker, Navigator program will work within an integrated team of professionals across the Mallee and is responsible for providing high quality assertive outreach to young people disengaged from education. The Caseworker will support young people and their families to address the presenting risk factors leading to school disengagement and develop protective factors that will enable young people to develop aspirations, make pro-social connections, and engage in a pathway back to education.Key Objectives:Provide assertive outreach to young people and their families and developing meaningful engagement.Assess the holistic needs of the young person and their families – with a particular focus on the barriers to education re-entry (secondary is the preference).Establish a responsive care team inclusive of in-kind services, development of a care plan and an education re-engagement plan and coordination of care team and capacity building with education settings for student re-entry.Qualifications and Experience:A person employed as a Caseworker – Navigator Program will be required to hold an accredited qualification relevant to the position at Degree Level or above, have a passion and commitment for supporting children and families across the child and family support/child protection continuum and ideally have transferable practice experience in the sector or similar fields.Diploma level qualification in relevant field may be considered, on the proviso that the applicant will commit to undertake further Tertiary studies with the support of the organisation.Experience working with family units, adolescents, and parents with an understanding of the impacts of Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol, Family Violence, Out-of-Home Care, Child Protection, and child development.Demonstrated experience in working with schools and vocational training providers.Demonstrated understanding of child and adolescent developmental needs.Capacity and experience in planning and implementing appropriate interventions.Proven capacity to liaise appropriately with consultants and other professionals.Experience in building networking opportunities and representing organisational values in the community and professional settings.A current driver's licence, a willingness to travel and preparedness to be accommodated overnight when required.For you to be considered for this role, all applications must be submitted with a Cover Letter, Resume and the Key Selection Criteria addressed, which can be found in the position description.For more information regarding this position please contact Maree Fullgrabe – Human Resource Manager on 5023 5966.We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we work and live.
