2 years contract Department of Defence January Start Full time hours South Melbourne, VIC Your next employer/the background Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group is providing technical advice to the Australian Defence Organisation with respect to the future Australian submarine. In particular, Materials Performance & Structural Integrity in the Maritime Division provides advice concerning the materials performance of the submarine hull steel. One of the material properties that needs to be taken into account is stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility. Your mission Our client, DST Group, is in need of an experienced Materials Engineer.Further research is required to gain a better understanding of SCC testing methods and to optimise the current SCC testing procedure. The role The objectives of this contract include, but are not limited to: Undertake a review of the literature and document the findings Carry out SCC tests using the rising-displacement method Analysis of the test data Analysis of the test specimens using fractographic and metallographic methods Reporting of the test results You will need Degree in materials engineering, materials science or similar. Experience in materials testing. Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment and make an effective contribution to the team. Ability to work independently.
