About the opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lawyer to join the team supporting the Australian Food Group. The role sits within a high performing legal team responsible for managing all legal activities associated with Woolworths Supermarkets, Metro, and the Format, Network and Development teams across our national footprint of 1000+ operating sites.
The role represents a superb opportunity to use your commercial acumen and legal skills to provide strategic and risk balanced legal advice across the Australian Food Group, to further develop direct and horizontal leadership capabilities, and to collaborate with the broader Legal Services Team and Woolworths trading businesses across the evolving Woolworths food and everyday needs ecosystem.
What you’ll do
You will be responsible for advising on a broad range of commercial matters, including:
4. advising in relation to legal and regulatory compliance matters, including matters arising under applicable industry codes such as the Food and Grocery Code, the Horticultural Code, the Dairy Code, the Food Standards Code and the Telecommunications Consumer Protections Code;
5. drafting external submissions and correspondence with regulators in relation to Woolworths Supermarkets regulatory and compliance matters; and end-to-end drafting and negotiation of high-value and complex commercial agreements with key suppliers and business partners across Woolworths Supermarkets, Metro, and Woolworths Mobile
6. working collaboratively on commercial matters with lawyers supporting Woolworths Food Company and advising in relation to modern slavery and responsible sourcing issues arising in the supply chain for the Supermarkets and Woolworths Food Company businesses
7. acting as the lead legal representative on cross-functional squads for large, transformative projects and initiatives
8. supporting the stand-up of new businesses and integration of acquired businesses within the Woolworths ecosystem;
9. delivering briefings to senior leaders in relation to material legal, regulatory and contractual issues and significant transactions.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for an experienced legal professional who is highly capable, collaborative, passionate and who consistently strives for better ways of working.
You will have:
10. 8+ years PQE with a well regarded law firm or/and in house experience with a current Australian practising certificate
11. strong background in advising on regulatory compliance issues (preferably with some exposure to issues relevant to the Australian retail and/or agricultural industries) and end to end commercial contracting
12. a resilient and collaborative professional who is comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
13. capable of building trusted relationships with internal clients using balanced insights and impactful communication to influence decisions and actions.
14. experience in commercial contracting, retail operations and regulatory compliance; superior drafting capabilities
15. a commercial approach and an ability to negotiate effectively
