Bluefin Resources are working with a prestigious federal government enterprise to recruit an Azure Database Administrator for a 12 month contract with further extensions.

The CIO Group provides a range of enabling services and operations delivery to the department and to Australian businesses and are seeking experienced and motivated Cloud Database Analysts with a minimum of 5 years' experience to assist with the delivery of various ICT Projects across the Division.
The SQL Server/Azure Database Administrator will be required to:
1. Manage and optimize Azure-based database solutions, including Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance
2. Troubleshoot common database issues, integrity, performance, blocking and deadlocking, query plan pinning, tuning database queries, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity and network issues, security issues, etc. including detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention
3. Monitor and report on database service availability, performance and proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and issues
4. Perform database capacity planning and ensure scalability and high availability of database systems.
5. Conduct regular database maintenance activities, including data purging, index rebuilding, and statistics updating.
6. Create documentation to including reports, processes, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
7. Provide technical guidance and input into the design and build of on premise and cloud-based systems
8. Ensure that the enterprise and system solutions maintain adherence to whole-of-government standards
9. Work with the delivery manager to support our agile delivery approach
10. Collaborate and mentor team members and support cross-skilling
11. Undertake additional duties as required
Essential criteria
12. Experience with Microsoft SQL (all versions), Windows Servers (all versions), PowerShell scripting, managing backups, replication, log shipping, knowledge in storage Infrastructure, SQL performance monitoring and tuning, security principles and best practices
13. Experience with SQL Server internals, performance tuning, and query optimization
14. Experience with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure DevOps and Visual Studio for code development, management, repositories, and deployments CI/CD
15. Familiarity with Azure Data Studio, Azure Portal, and other Azure database management tools.
16. Ability to analyse and troubleshoot database-related issues.
17. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
18. Experience working with agile multi-disciplinary teams to deliver secure, user friendly and reliable solutions that meet stakeholder, citizen, and business expectations.
19. Ability to pragmatically change direction and scope as new information is discovered and challenges or opportunities present themselves
Desirable criteria
20. Demonstrated track record of technical leadership across project and operational tasks
21. Demonstrated experience and understanding of SQL architecture at an Enterprise Level
22. Demonstrated experience in Migration of SQL into Azure
23. Experience designing and documenting architectures for large, complex enterprise systems
On Offer - This is an initial 12 month contract with a further two 12 month extensions to follow. Expectation to work from the office in Canberra 1/2 days a week with the rest from home.
