The Workplace Relations and Occupational Safety (WROS) Branch enjoys an extraordinary diversity of exciting and challenging matters.
The work can range from providing advice and conducting litigation in relation to all aspects of Victorian Public Sector occupational health and safety matters, employment, industrial relations, and discrimination law.
It is a small close-knit team that enjoys working collaboratively together.
About the role
We are looking for a dedicated Senior Legal Assistant to join our Legal Support Team.
The role will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to our practising lawyers and guidance/mentorship to junior members of the Legal Support Team.
It would ideally be suited to someone looking to build on their existing Legal Support experience and progress their career in the people management space.
Day to day responsibilities include:
Preparing, formatting and reviewing legal documentation, including correspondence and court documents Liaising with clerks and preparing e-briefs for counsel Filing and service of court documents via online platforms Autonomous file management - conduct of matter related tasks, monthly billing and maintaining efficient and effective electronic files Calendar and mailbox management Checking in with and supporting junior members of the Legal Support Team Each day can bring something different and varied, extending from providing support to lawyers of all levels, training and developing junior legal support staff along with opportunities for your own training and skill development.
We are looking for an experienced administrator who is calm under pressure, is able to manage multiple stakeholders, has the ability to prioritise tasks using sound judgement and with excellent written and verbal skills with a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
This role requires a high level of attention to detail and is suited to someone who proactively seeks opportunities to create better efficiencies in the workplace, both at a branch and organisational level.
To be successful you will bring to this role your demonstrated skills and experience in:
Legal administration, with litigation an advantage Providing high quality support to a team of solicitors, in a deadline driven and fast paced environment Understanding legal processes and court jurisdictions, legal terminology, with your ability to conduct research using online databases and systems an advantage Being a self-starter who takes initiative, and has the ability to operate autonomously, with advanced skills in problem solving Committing to service excellence and engaging your keen eye for detail Using Microsoft Office Mentoring junior staff and colleagues VGSO offers an inclusive, collegiate and collaborative work environment where you will be well-supported and mentored to develop your knowledge.
