About the Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a solicitor to join the Prosecution Group within the Public Law Section. Solicitors within the group are responsible for providing advice and representation in relation to the prosecution of offences on behalf of government authorities pertaining to many and varied areas including work, health and safety, consumer law, education, and workers compensation fraud. Advice and representation is also provided to government authorities in relation to subpoenas issued in criminal proceedings, the Attorney-General in relation to applications for Extended Supervision Orders under the Criminal Law (High Risk Offenders) Act 2015, spent conviction matters, and Magistrates Appeals. Multiple roles are available at a range of LEC1 to LEC2 depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
About the Business
The Crown Solicitor's Office provides legal services to government specifically to Ministers, departments, and other public sector agencies. This includes providing legal advice, conducting a wide range of litigation including representation before courts and tribunals, negotiating and drafting for commercial property and general commercial transactions, drafting and producing a broad range of other legal documents, conducting summary prosecutions, Magistrates' appeals, and native title claims and land conveyancing and investigation.
Special Conditions for Employment
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
* Must currently possess or be eligible to obtain a practising certificate within South Australia.
* Some out of hours work may be required.
* Must hold a current Australian issued driver’s licence (equivalent to minimum class C).
