About the role
WHO - the home of Australia's trusted celebrity and entertainment news - is on the lookout for an experienced Copy Editor to maintain the highest quality of content in print and online. The role will involve diligent fact-checking and sub-editing of all text and photos, editing existing copy for style, accuracy and grammar, and writing new content as necessary.
The Copy Editor must stay up to date with all royal/celebrity/entertainment and breaking Australian news and copy edit and fact check magazine features – editorial and lifestyle – in WHO magazine. Supported by a part time copy editor and reporting to the Editor, a key aspect of role is ensuring WHO magazine meets its print deadline and adheres to its production schedule.
Duties
* Proactively access copy and pages in Content Station and be responsible for checking content with internal and external stakeholders (writers, editors, photo and design teams)
* Be alert to potential legal issues and send copy to the legal team for checking where necessary
* Fact check, sub-edit and rework content to house style and copyfit to pages
* Work with Editors and Editorial Directors on omnichannel content across print, digital and social channels, as needed
* Give regular copy feedback to both staff and freelance contributors
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will have:
* 3+ years editorial experience including sub-editing/copy editing
* A genuine passion for celebrity and entertainment magazine content in print and online
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail
* Ability to change tone and style to match news/feature/interview/celebrity or lifestyle content in WHO
* Creative thinker with the ability to problem solve and work independently
* Professional, mature and decisive in approach
* Ability to manage multi-disciplinary tasks and work to tight deadlines in a fast- paced, changing environment
The following skills are highly regarded:
* Flair for writing snappy headlines and sells
* Familiarity with and interest in WHO magazine
* In Design experience
* Ability to use SEO knowledge to optimise digital content
