The Sunshine Coast Arts Council (SCAC) is a volunteer-based society founded in 1966 to raise the profile of local artists and artisans. Our mandate is to broaden the opportunities for the citizens, artists and artisans of the Sunshine Coast to enjoy and participate in local cultural activities. We are a vital resource for the artistic and cultural life of the Coast community. In addition to operating the Arts Centre which includes two exhibition spaces, a music and visual arts studio, the SCAC hosts ongoing free cultural events. Our mission is to provide opportunities for Coast citizens to enjoy and participate in cultural activities, and to increase platforms for artists and artisans to share their work.The Sunshine Coast Arts Council is seeking an individual to fill the position of a Community Events Assistant. Working closely with the Assistant Director and Curator, this position will support the delivery of community events and programs hosted by the SCAC. This includes the 37th annual Hackett Park Artisan Fair that features an attendance of over 5000 people with 60+ regional vendors and live music by Rogue Fest as well as supporting daily operations at the Arts Centre which includes the Doris Crowston Gallery, an artist residency, a community gallery space and a visual arts studio. Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging with the public, is detail oriented, has good written and verbal skills, and is passionate about art and culture.Typical Duties:Assist in preparation for Hackett Park Artisan FairSupport vendor coordination and communicationsPlanning and Production of event site mapSupport coordination of event production including vendor + visitor surveyEvent volunteer recruitment and managementSupport marketing and communications for programming and eventsSupport delivery of summer programming including workshops and other activitiesProvide support for July summer camp activities including program delivery Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a current student or recent graduate from any of the following: Arts Administration, Event Management, Marketing, Fine Arts, Curatorial and Critical Studies, Art History, Interactive Arts, History or related field. In addition, we hope that the candidate will also possess:Interest and engagement with the local arts community. Knowledge of the Sunshine Coast is an assetInterest in public engagement, educational program planning and delivery in the arts.Experience working with festivals and events is considered an asset.Experience working with children and youth is considered an asset.Exceptional verbal and written communications skills.Exemplary organization skills.Strong interpersonal skills.Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.Ability to take initiative and problem solve.Computer experience with Microsoft Office suite and social media platforms.Volunteer or work experience in a gallery, community art space or museum environment desirable.
