Are you an experienced EHO looking to move into a leadership role?
An exciting opportunity has become available for an efficient and accountable Principal Environmental Health Officer to join the team based in Emerald. In this role you will provide service to the community through the implementation of various statutes and health promotion activities in matters pertaining to public health, resulting in an improved level of community wellbeing. You will also oversee and mentor a small, well-developed team.
In this role you will be exposed to a diverse range of public enquiries and inspections which will require you to exercise the delegated powers of Council aligned to various relevant legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines.
Your technical expertise coupled with the ability to build professional, effectively leave and build working relationships with all staff and the public will be highly regarded.
In this busy role, you will support the organisation by:
* Managing the application process for licences, registrations and permits including approvals, renewals and transfers within statutory timeframes.
* Auditing, regulating and enforcing activities that are licensed, registered or approved by Council.
* Investigating complaints, conduct inspections, identify and implement appropriate enforcement actions.
* Resolving disputes and appeals relating to environmental health functions of Council.
* Producing high standard reports, correspondence and advice to internal and external clients relevant to disciplines within the unit.
* Maintaining productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective customer relationship management whilst providing advice and enforcement services.
* Increasing community awareness of environmental health issues and responsibilities and participate in environmental health promotional and educational activities.
* Supervising and mentoring a small dedicated team.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to possess:
* Tertiary qualifications in Applied Science (Environment Health) or other Environmental Health Australia (EHA) accredited course.
* Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation with an understanding of the context in which Environmental Health Services are delivered at a local government level
* An ability to conduct compliance inspections and follow through with appropriate enforcement actions
* A high degree of emotional intelligence in order to effectively mediate conflict, negotiate and influence outcomes
* A proven ability to interact with customers from a wide range of backgrounds
* Experience in producing comprehensive reports as well as logical and professional written communication
* A high degree of technical proficiency in operating local government systems
* Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers licence.
