James Cook University (JCU) is creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally and globally.We now have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Officer to join our Estate team.Fulltime, continuing positionBased at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campusHEWL 3: $60,133.56 - $67,265.17 per yearUp to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefitsABOUT THE ROLEAs a Maintenance Officer, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the operational integrity and ongoing functionality of JCU’s assets and built environment, supporting a safe campus environment for staff, students, and visitors. Key responsibilities include:Undertake maintenance works and diagnosis by applying existing knowledge and judgment to resolve proactive and preventative maintenance issues in order to ensure minimal disruption to the University’s operation.Assist in the development of Safe Work Method Statements, Risk Assessments, work instructions and material lists to enable works to be approved.Assist with liaison of onsite contractors including, quality management and time management for all works on the University's assets.Undertake all works in accordance with building fabric and maintenance issues including prioritising work orders and completing work orders on time and escalating issues as required.Utilize the University's facilities maintenance systems, including MEX for works management and GIS for asset management service delivery.Comply with the regulatory frameworks including health safety and environment, sustainability and financial controls, maintaining a safe and clean workplace at all times.Work with other members of the Estate Office in an emergency situation to protect and maintain the University's Operations.QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCECompletion of a trade certificate or equivalent experience in building maintenance and training/education.Demonstrated ability to interpret and prioritise work orders including meeting cost, time, scope and quality requirements.Demonstrated experience working within a team environment in a large and modern asset management operation.Demonstrated ability to carry out maintenance on assets in a safe manner including the efficient and safe use of equipment and tools.Ability to solve minor asset maintenance issues to carry out work orders.Ability to use modern communication systems, including using mobile technology to assist in delivering works.Special ConditionsThe incumbent must be able to pass pre-probity checks including a medical assessment and/or drug and alcohol.This position is required to undertake physical duties in hot conditions and complete repetitive manual tasks on a daily basis.SHAPE YOUR FUTURE WITH JCUAt JCU we’re not just shaping minds; we’re shaping the future.
