Role Overview UMENCO is recruiting with the opportunity for a creative and technically outstanding Senior Womenswear Designer to join one of Australia’s leading, contemporary RTW fashion houses. In this pivotal design team role, the Senior Womenswear Designer will deliver beautiful, innovative, and fashion-forward collections that champion the evolution and development of cult core styles. They will work across multidisciplinary design and a broad range of RTW apparel to establish the brand’s reputation as a leading voice in global fashion. The Senior Womenswear Designer will build a solid foundation of core brand fabrications and iconic trims and graphics, as well as constantly sourcing and developing new techniques and materials at the forefront of trends and technological advances in the fashion industry. In all that they do, they will work to ensure cohesion between the brand’s seasonal creative vision and their design output, presenting unified collections that reflect the sensibilities of the brand. They will champion a constantly evolving vision with attention to unique details, proportions, and colour stories that connect with the heartbeat of the fashion universe. The talent we seek will have a robust understanding of price points, margins, fabrication, and construction techniques, and experience developing supplier relationships. They will use this knowledge to ensure each piece is designed to maximise profitability and reach business targets for the collection. This is an end-to-end role, where the Senior Womenswear Designer will manage their own deadlines, critical path, margins, and supplier developments, reporting on progress and signing off with the Design Room Manager and the General Manager of Design. The successful talent will present with five years of experience in RTW design. They will hold impeccable attention to detail and organisation skills, have a proven track record working with offshore manufacturing and technical management of suppliers, and hold a strong technical knowledge of fit, pattern making, and construction. Alongside this, they will have an innate aptitude for trend forecasting and an inherent understanding of the brand’s DNA. The ideal talent will present with excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills applicable to both internal and external stakeholders and will be able to manage competing priorities and timelines and ensure priorities are met and managed based on the importance of timeframe, and critical path.
