What you will do as the Assistant Director
The Assistant Director Financial Accounting will play an important role in the AER's finance team as it works toward legal separation from the ACCC. The individual will be involved in the implementation of the Agency's new finance system and establishing the roles functions which includes:
o Providing leadership and managing a team which is responsible for accounts processing, credit card and travel management, general ledger management, month end and year end reporting.
o Leading the end of month process for the Agency and manage the preparation of the Agency's financial statements and corresponding notes and schedules.
o Managing the asset accounting function for the Agency.
o Maintaining and developing financial processes and procedures to ensure compliant work processes and continuous improvement.
About you
In order to succeed in the role, you will have demonstrated:
o Experience preparing monthly financial reports, financial statements and associated workpapers, preferably in a government environment.
o Ability to research, investigate and write papers on accounting treatments (position papers), briefs for leadership, QON responses.
o Experience in leading and managing a financial accounting team.
o Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills to work with internal and external stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
Your experience will include:
o Tertiary accounting qualifications in commerce, accounting or a related field.
o A high level of competency and experience in the use of computerised accounting systems such as TechnologyOne, including a high level of MS Excel skills.
o Membership of a professional accounting association (CPA/CA) is highly desirable.
