AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We're the people who keep the cloud running, supporting all AWS data centers and servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to ensure customer access to innovation.
The Role
We're looking for a talented Data Center Area Manager to serve as a technical resource and leader within Amazon data centers. This role is responsible for ensuring overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee all aspects of the data centre's critical physical infrastructure, ensuring high-quality work without impacting internal/external customers.
* Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians in all facets of their career.
* Engage in improvement projects, driving them from conception to completion, often requiring collaboration with various support teams.
* Coordinate daily with third-party vendors to ensure adherence to contracted SLAs.
* Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.
* Routinely operate as the after-hours on-call Data Centre Area Manager for the data centres in the region, responding to issues and managing investigations, mitigation, and recovery.
Requirements
* An excellent understanding of electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical Data Centre Operations, including feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, Air Handling units, and Fan pack units.
* Proven track record of people management and developing teams, ensuring staff are ready for any conditions through skill and process development.
* Ability to solve problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context.
* A strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem-solving, maintaining SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
* Advanced electrical or mechanical certifications (Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline).
* 5+ years of experience working in data centers with an emphasis on building and equipment operation.
* 3+ years of experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports.
