Child and Family Health Nurse
Our supportive team is on the look-out for an experienced Child and Family Health Nurse to join us to provide a quality health service to the Aboriginal people of far western New South Wales. Reporting to the Manager Healthy Start, this full-time opportunity.
Salary up to $117,600 gross per annum plus superannuation. (Depending on qualifications and years of experience)
Incentives for this position

· Home base travel allowance to keep in touch with your family - $600 allowance on completion of each 6 months of service for 2 years.
Key Responsibilities:
· Coordinating and assist in a wide variety of child and family health treatments and care activities using a patient-centered approach in a general practice clinic.
· Work as part of the Child and Family Program within the Maari Ma footprint, to provide safe and effective Child and Family Health services and ensure the continuity of care for children and families.
· Preceptor and support Aboriginal Health Practitioners and trainees with child and family health services, encouraging their active participation at all times.
· Provide quality child and family health nurse services to families within Maari Ma region, focusing on Broken Hill and Wilcannia.
· Use a strength -based, wellness focus, building parental confidence and skills through the provision of information, resources, interventions, guidance and role modelling safe responsive care.
· Utilise evidenced based screening tools and assessment to identify health variations or vulnerabilities to negotiate an individual care plan and interventions that meet the needs of the family.
· Work with the GP and visiting Paediatrician to provide care for children with special needs
· Liaise with the FWLHD staff to facilitate continuity of care for families.
· Work in partnership with the Healthy Start AHPs to develop strategies to most effectively access the clients to deliver the child & family program.
· Provide practical and clinical support to the AHPs to assist their work in the community with clients and complete those health checks indicated.
· Deliver services in both community and clinic-based settings
· Maintain recall systems and manage bookings for clinics and referrals and ensure the maintenance of a current population list and identify the target group.
To Be Successful:
· Current unconditional registration with AHPRA as an registered nurse
· Hold a postgraduate qualification relevant to performing the role of a Child and Family Health Nurse.
· Recognised credentials in a preceptorship role or ability to complete a certified Preceptorship course within the first six months of employment.
· Currently possess or able to obtain within 3 months of commencing employment, authorisation as an immunisation provider in New South Wales.
· Evidence of recent post registration experience working with families and young children.
· Ability to work in a way that fosters mutual respect in a cross-cultural environment
· Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of primary health care and how they relate to maternal and infant health, particularly Indigenous children
· High level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to respond effectively to clients who may be challenging to engage.
· Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles of population health and primary health care, especially as they relate to Aboriginal communities.
· Computing skills relevant to the position and competent in the use of information and communication technology including Microsoft Word, email and internet applications and the ability to quickly acquire skills in other applications.
· Current unrestricted drivers licence and a safe driving record and ability to undertake regular outreach travel.
