We have an exciting and unique opportunity for an experienced Strategic Program Lead to join our world class Teaching & Research team in the WA School of Mines: Minerals, Energy & Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering team, operating from Curtin’s campus preferably in the historic mining town of Kalgoorlie. Kalgoorlie lies on the traditional lands of the Wangkatja group of peoples and was established in 1893 during the WA gold rushes. Today the Gold industry operations within WA are predominantly located around Kalgoorlie. Metallurgical Engineering at Curtin’s Western Australia School of Mines is a thriving discipline delivering teaching and research spanning the gamut of extractive metallurgical processes across a wide range of commodities. The successful candidate will have the required qualifications and practical experience to be Curtin University’s representation in the international Amira Global (Amira) P420 collaboration partnership and lead the Curtin team to deliver the commitments under this partnership.
Your New Role As the Strategic Program Lead, you will be responsible for managing a flagship project in gold processing working closely with AMIRA Global and industry sponsors focusing on enhancing operational efficiencies and spearheading innovative practices and technologies. Your leadership will be crucial in managing stakeholder expectations and fostering collaborative relationships to influence positive outcomes across diverse and often conflicting priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Strategic Oversight: Lead research and consultancy programs ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery. Drive sustainable improvements and advocate for innovative practices both nationally and internationally.
2. Stakeholder Engagement: Develop robust relationships with key project stakeholders, industry bodies, professional groups, and government organizations, offering high-level consultancy and strategic advice.
3. Corporate Governance: Manage team performance, align resources with business strategies, and maintain rigorous project management frameworks to achieve strategic objectives.
4. Research Leadership: Guide research directions based on industry needs, ensuring impactful dissemination of research and operational outcomes.
Ideal Candidate:
5. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Extractive Metallurgy or a similar discipline and proven expertise in the management of significant resources; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or educations/training.
6. Experience : Proven expertise in mineral processing and/or hydrometallurgy specific to the gold mining industry, with a solid demonstrated foundation in project management.
7. Skills : Demonstrated leadership experience, problem-solving, and relationship-building capabilities. Strong communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders.
