Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner, Waves WA. Wickham, Port Hedland, Karratha & Pilbara, WA. Aged & Disability Support (Community Services & Development). Part time.
About Waves WA: Focusing on social and emotional well-being and empowerment pathways. Waves WA was created out of a deep passion to empower children, adolescents, and adults to live their best lives and to support the dedicated people in their lives to better understand their needs. Waves WA is a neuro-affirming, inclusive practice offering counselling and behaviour support. We have lived with disability and use an evidence-based practice derived from the latest research in neuroscience, attachment, and trauma. We approach behaviour from a relational lens, seeing connection and belonging as fundamental to a person's wellbeing and sense of safety.
The Role: As a registered NDIS provider, Waves WA provides a range of community-based Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) services to people of all ages and abilities. We are seeking a dedicated PBS practitioner to join our team in the Wickham/Roebourne/Karratha area on a full-time or part-time role. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a supportive and collaborative environment, where you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Work with participants who have specific and unique needs due to the impact of personal and situational factors on their lives.
2. Collaborate closely with participants and their support networks to develop individualised Positive Behaviour Support plans and work toward reducing and eliminating restrictive practice.
3. Conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA) to understand participants' needs and develop effective PBS plans.
4. Support, listen to, and understand participants’ interests, likes, and dislikes to connect on a meaningful level.
5. Provide training and capacity-building to participants and their carers to increase understanding of behaviour and foster positive outcomes.
6. Use a person-centred, trauma-informed approach to address participants' needs.
7. Advocate for participants, ensuring that the systems around them are supportive and person-centred.
8. Work with other professionals, including support coordinators, allied health professionals, and service providers, to provide holistic support.
9. Create and update behaviour plans in line with NDIS requirements and best practices.
10. Engage in ongoing professional development, training, and clinical supervision.

You should be genuinely interested in adding value to a person’s life and helping them to live the life they want. You should also possess excellent report-writing skills and strong organisational and time-management abilities. A Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check is required.
Desirable Qualifications: Experience working with a trauma-informed lens and a neurodivergent, affirming approach. Lived experience with disability or neurodivergence. Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Identify as CALD. Evidence of NDIS PBS practitioner suitability, if available.
