Your mission... 1. develop and carry out nitrocellulose based gun and rocket propellant analyses in support of current research programmes as directed by research chemists; 2. perform analyses in support of the assignment of safe storage life extensions to gun propellants and ordnance 3. troubleshoot problems with analyses and instruments, manage instrument maintenance contracts, and ensure laboratory is stocked with consumables; 4. interpret analytical results sometimes with reference to the appropriate Defence Standards; 5. manage your own work within the propellants analytical laboratory, and work cooperatively with an analytical chemist engaged in the in-service surveillance of gun propellants for Defence; and 6. ensure compliance documentation required for the operation of the laboratory is in place and current.
You'll need...
Essential: • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with HPLC.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in analytical chemistry.
• Demonstrated understanding of QA/QC as it applies to analytical chemistry.
Highly Desirable: • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with hazardous chemicals.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NATA accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025) and analytical chemistry.
Desirable: • Demonstrated understanding of precautions taken when working with explosives.
