The Role
We are seeking a highly-motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who will thrive within a dynamic and diverse team. This is a Full-time Permanent position based in Cockburn Central.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working alongside a team, you will draw upon your years of experience and skills to bring to market a succession of innovative designs for a constantly changing industry.
This is a hands-on role with full responsibility for the lifecycle of product development from conception to production release which will have you interfacing with customers, through to production and to suppliers, in the office, workshop, and in the field.
Responsibilities include:
* Design approved products or enhancements to existing products.
* Prioritise projects and plans development cycle/design schedule. Ensure projects meet or exceed design, performance and cost parameters.
* Ensure all product designs are compliant with relevant Australian standards.
* Perform calculations, simulations, and testing to validate designs and ensure designs meet functionality and performance requirements.
* Maintain overall design responsibility for mechanical, hydraulic, electrical systems and HMI software development as well as the design, styling, structural integrity, and functional performance of all products.
* Maintain complete documentation of designs including all CAD models, detailed drawings, purchased items with generic specifications, complete and accurate Bill of Materials, shipping configurations, and product specifications.
* Communicate project status on a regular basis regarding product performance characteristics, specification information, and manufacturing information.
* Coordinate production of prototypes and component delivery.
* Select components and materials for design projects.
* Assist in field testing new products and evaluating performance for approval or problem resolution. Report progress of testing to Engineering, Marketing, and Production staff.
* Provide project support to Sales including dealers and end-users.
* Act as a resource for Marketing queries as well as Technical Service and Warranty claims.
* Comply with OHS and maintain a commitment to safety.
About You
The ideal candidate will need to meet the following to be successful in this position:
* 10+ years experience in a NPD engineer capacity or similar role.
* Degree in Engineering, equivalent tertiary qualification or relevant work experience.
* Experience working on mobile plant/off highway equipment.
* Highly proficient with a mainstream 3D CAD package for both design and documentation.
* Strong problem-solving skills (ability to think outside the box).
* High attention to detail.
* Ability to work unsupervised and work with a team.
* English language competence (equivalent of >= 7 IELTS Academic).
* Unrestricted rights to work in Australia.
* Experience working with agricultural machinery.
* Experience with using Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault .
* Trade qualification and/or experience on the tools in a mechanical, manufacturing role.
* Post-graduate study in an engineering discipline related to off highway or industrial machinery.
* Career experience with:
o Structural design and analysis.
o Materials selection and failure analysis.
o Hydraulic and fluids system design and analysis.
o Mobile plant electrical control systems.
