This role promotes independence while adhering to the highest standards of care, including compliance with the NDIS Practice Standards, Human Services Quality Framework, and other relevant legislation, safety standards, and safeguarding principles. The Disability Support Worker also ensures a supportive and safe environment where clients can exercise informed choice and control over their daily lives, while continuously upholding their rights, dignity, and well-being.The primary objective of the Disability Support Worker is to assist NDIS, NIISQ and QCSS clients with daily living activities while encouraging social inclusion and participation. A key focus is on promoting client autonomy and independence, advocating for their rights, supporting them to make informed decisions, and helping them exercise choice and control. The role also emphasises maintaining a safe and supportive environment while upholding the clients' dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.Whilst every service is uniquely tailored to the individual’s requirements, services may include, but are not limited to:Personal Care – assistance with daily personal activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming and hygiene;Domestic Assistance – cleaning, laundry, meal preparation/cooking and maintaining a safe living environment;Daily Living – support clients develop and maintain daily living skills, including shopping, budgeting, and cooking, whilst encouraging and guiding them to perform daily tasks independently where possible;Supported Independent Living - providing 24/7 care and assistance to clients in a shared or individual living arrangement to help them build skills, increase independence, and manage daily routines. This includes personal care, support with household tasks, promoting social interactions, and assisting with community access;Assistance with Medication (where suitably qualified);Community Access and Social Participation - accompany clients to social activities (community/family/friend) events, recreational outings and medical appointments;Transport Assistance - provide transport for NDIS, NIISQ & QCSS clients to attend medical appointments, therapy sessions or social engagements;Short Term Accommodation - provide temporary care / respite care to give family or primary carers a break; andAdditional Support - provide behavioral, emotional, mental health and technology assistance to assist clients manage their daily challenges effectivelyWhat We're Looking For:A team playerSomeone with the ability to be flexible, strong and resilient in various challenging situationsExperience with personal care, medications, manual handling and behaviour support plansCurrent C or CA Driver’s license (QLD)Current First Aid & CPRIn addition to the above, you will need to demonstrate:Experience in client focused rolesAbility to adapt communication to individual client needsAbility to recognise risks and incidents, react appropriately and report accuratelyCertificate III or higher in a relevant qualification with a minimum of 12 months industry experienceKnowledge and skills gained through on-the-job training commensurate with the requirements of the work in this levelThe successful candidate will also be required to demonstrate entitlement to work in Australia, and to disclose any pre-existing injury or disease which may be adversely affected by undertaking the inherent requirements of the position.All offers of employment are subject to the satisfactory completion of relevant screening and background checks, including an Australian Federal Police check, an NDIS disability worker screening check, and attainment of a Blue Card for working with children, prior to commencement.CatholicCare (formerly CentacareCQ) is a large, vibrant and well-respected, not-for-profit organisation providing services across the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton.
