Cyril Jackson Secondary College (SC) provides students with an alternative approach to Year 11 and Year 12 schooling. It is one of two senior campuses in Western Australia that offer secondary education to students beyond the compulsory age of 18 years. Students attending include school-aged children working towards their Western Australian Certificate of Education and returning mature age students studying to follow an interest or to gain a skill-based qualification. Students may complete a range of Foundation, General and Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), courses, including as an on-line student, as well as Certificate level programs.

The Role
Cyril Jackson SC is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic leader to join the leadership team as Program Coordinator – Vocational Education and Training (VET). As a key member of the Schools Leadership Team, the successful applicant should have recent experience working in or leading a VET team. A key part of this role is to provide curriculum leadership in VET and work in collaboration with fellow leaders to implement the school’s program. The successful applicant should adopt the key features of the school’s pedagogical framework (attached) and lead this in the area of responsibility. The successful applicant will ideally possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and provide professional leadership to teachers and other staff members in curriculum related matters.
The position also has responsibilities in the following areas of school operations.
1. Oversee the management of the e Authority Developed Structured Workplace Learning (ADWPL) program and other forms of work experience. This carries the responsibility for the supervision of two staff – the workplace learning co-ordinator and a clerical support officer.
2. Providing leadership for the Careers team and assist with the provision of career advice to students.
3. Coordinate the re enrolment of Year 11 students and Year 12 Exit Interviews and manage the training of Course Advisors in preparation for new enrolments.
4. Support the Deputy Principal with curriculum issues and in liaison with School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) and other school leaders.
5. At this stage there is no requirement to supervise other learning areas, however, this may change with time and the school’s leadership profile.
The successful applicant will ideally have an excellent understanding of VET in the secondary school context and the capacity to build and maintain partnerships with business, training and other organisations to provide opportunities for students. This position requires that the Program Coordinator – VET understands the management and compliance requirements for the Targeted Funding Allocations, School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) and Registered Training Organisations (RTO). The ability to analyse student performance data and use this to inform planning is highly regarded. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the annual reflection, review and operational planning cycle within the area of responsibility.
