NSW Health Pathology is seeking a proactive and solution-oriented Technical Officer to join our Central Specimen Reception team at Westmead Hospital – ICPMR.

In this role, you will contribute directly to patient care, work collaboratively with pathologists, scientists, technical assistants, and healthcare professionals to ensure the timely and efficient processing of patient specimens.
The ideal candidate will possess strong critical thinking, communication, organisation skills and have excellent attention to detail to help maintain the accuracy and integrity of our daily operations.
What You Will Be Doing
Perform a range of supervisory and technical tasks in the Central Specimen Reception Department by applying established methods and procedures, as directed.
Duties include the supervision and delegation of specimen reception tasks and workflow, training of technical assistant staff, taking part in the initial data entry and processing of specimens, verification of specialised test results, preparation of materials and the maintenance of equipment in line with established laboratory processes, procedures and protocols.
Requirements
Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a discipline relevant to the department, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems.
Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.

Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities.
Ability to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster including weekends, public holidays and night shifts.
