About the opportunity
There is currently one (1) fixed term, 24 -month, full-time position available for immediate filling with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.
The South West Development Commission are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated individual who is keen to learn and strive to achieve positive outcomes. The Principal Regional Development Officer is responsible for managing a range of exciting strategic and complex projects in the regional and economic development sectors that support the South West Development Commission in achieving its vision, mission and objectives. Proposals currently under management are from a broad range of sectors including tourism development and industry events, local produce, infrastructure development, advanced manufacturing and renewables.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work as part of a small team and apply leadership, partnership building and consultation skills. Working with all levels of government, industry and stakeholders, the role has a strong focus on developing and delivering projects that have a beneficial impact on improving economic and social outcomes for the South West community.

The ideal candidate will have high level experience in tourism and event project/program management, including the ability to formulate, analyse and complete due diligence on business and industry project proposals by applying business principles, financial analysis and assessment of risk. Your critical thinking, highly developed communication skills and relationship management skills, especially in a cross-cultural context are essential to performing well in the role.
We are looking for individuals with:
1. Experience in the tourism and events sectors.
2. Exposure to working in regional Australia.
3. A good understanding of economic development opportunities for the south west region.
4. The ability to contextualise past and current social, economic, and political issues impacting on the work of the Commission; and
5. Demonstrated experience in project management, including the ability to evaluate information, identify issues, form solutions, develop operational strategies and instigate plans to achieve desired results.
