Job Description:
The Access Services Technician II performs routine public service tasks supporting the library mission. Technician must have strong verbal skills, both oral and written; patience and tact while participating in conversations with patrons; computer data entry skills and the ability to work with sophisticated library applications including circulation, reserve, and interlibrary loan software.
Essential Responsibilities
* Assists the Access Services Coordinator in completing daily evening operations of the Access Services Department.
* Performs circulation activities including the charge and discharge of materials to an account, creating and updating records, and generating reports.
* Exhibits excellent customer service skills when consulting with patrons regarding their library account.
* Performs activities related to course reserves such as creating lists, adding items to lists, removing books from reserve during and/or after the term, and keeping the reserve shelves in order.
* Performs preliminary searching needed before processing outgoing interlibrary loan requests.
* Performs interlibrary loan lending and shipping activities.
* Participates in the development, implementation, and administration of student training tools, and oversees student assistants in a variety of assigned tasks.
* Participates in the maintenance of print and microform collections.
* Participates in department planning activities.
* Demonstrates knowledge for the Colleges’ educational philosophy and mission.
* Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances.
* Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
* Associate degree or equivalent
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent customer service skills
* Basic computer knowledge and skills and an aptitude to learn new software
* The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
