Located at Port Phillip Prison in Truganina, VIC. St Paul's Unit is a 30-bed psychosocial rehabilitation service that provides specialist, voluntary mental health care, treatment and therapeutic programs to prisoners with a mental health diagnosis.About the Role:The Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 delivers care within a custodial setting, practicing within a recovery framework and using sound judgement to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and maintain a high standard of patient care. This position works with a multidisciplinary team to provide care and facilitate recovery through the use of evidence-based treatment approaches and participation in the delivery of therapeutic programs.Duties:Demonstrate initiative in the delivery of nursing care.Apply the recognised nursing competencies and psychiatric nursing standards of practice.Use an evidence-based practice approach to nursing.Integrate security and therapeutic practices.Develop a therapeutic relationship that is respectful of the patient's choices, experiences and circumstances.Contribute to therapeutic programs and participate in the delivery of individual and group programs to the patients on the unit.Utilise a planned systematic approach to providing care that is consistent with the mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, social, forensic and cultural needs of the patient.Competently undertake a case management role for allocated patients.About You:Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.Knowledge of relevant legislation.Knowledge of contemporary and ethical mental health nursing practice.Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive nursing assessments of mentally ill patients, and to plan, implement and evaluate nursing interventions.A commitment to participate in the delivery of therapeutic programs.Effective verbal and written communication skills.What you need:Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.
