About the RoleAs a newly designed position, the Junior School Teacher Librarian will work collaboratively with the Knowledge and Learning Resources Manager, the Deputy Head of Junior School (Curriculum), the Library team, and Junior School classroom teachers, to develop and deliver integrated information literacy, critical thinking and some aspects of digital pedagogy for students from Prep to Year 6, as well as continue to develop a positive reading culture amongst our students. This is a full-time (term time), permanent teaching position, commencing ASAP but no later than the start of Term 1 of 2025. Key responsibilities include: Designing & delivering engaging, relevant and dynamic units of work that support classroom curriculum with regards to information skills and critical thinking skills across Prep to Year 6, using SchoolBox (LMS) to provision the learning environment for timetabled classes and in support of classroom teachers.Demonstrating teaching practices that reflect innovative pedagogy in teaching and learning, and advocate higher order questioning, critical and creative thinking and problem solving.Forming and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with College staff, students and the extended community.Assisting teachers to embed good quality literature into units of work, including recommending and sourcing mentor texts.Promoting a passion for reading through Library based initiatives that may include reading circles, author visits and competitions.Working with the Library and Junior School teams to promote annual Book Week activities.Working with teaching teams to provide tailored, in class and structured learning opportunities to enhance teacher capacity and support a deeper understanding of how to utilise books to improve student educational outcomes.Engaging in curriculum planning meetings with relevant leaders and teaching teams in the Junior School to help develop well-resourced units of work.Contributing to the Ipswich District Teacher Librarian Network and/or similar groups.Supporting teacher professional development through a variety of means – face-to-face interaction, provision of papers and professional reading and development of online resources to provide access in a 'need-it-now' context.Actively contribute to the Outdoor Education Program through annual engagement with and attendance at a camp.The successful candidate will possess: Appropriate tertiary degree(s) including teaching qualificationMust be registered or eligible for registration in Queensland as a teacherRelevant further study in librarianship, digital learning or similar (desirable)Current school-based experience within the P-6 rangeSolid understanding of the Australian Curriculum, with particular focus on the General CapabilitiesExperience in designing / delivering a curriculum focused on critical thinking skills in a student-centred model across a variety of year levelsDemonstrated excellence in utilising technology effectively for teaching and learning (desirable)Proven research skills utilising a variety of information sourcesStrong organisational skills and a high level of attention to detailEffective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively and as part of a wider teamAbility to initiate, innovate and adapt curriculum and services to meet changing requirementsRecognition and understanding of the requirements for student protectionDemonstrated experience with Learning Management Systems (SchoolBox experience an advantage)Demonstrated experience in an innovative information service (desirable)Be available and able to engage in Outdoor Education activities i.e. campsWest Moreton Anglican College is committed to providing an environment where children and young people receive the highest standard of care, where their rights are supported, and they have the opportunity to thrive and be fruitful.
