What you'll be doing
1. The RM Lactation Support position will be based on the Maternity unit at SDMH
2. The role includes supporting staff in the maternity and special care nursery departments with planning and implementing breastfeeding care for inpatients facing lactation challenges
3. The position will also be expected to provide lactation support and consultation for patients having care in other wards and areas of the SDMH
4. The position also includes development of a regular schedule of inpatient breastfeeding education to improve patient knowledge and autonomy with breastfeeding skills
5. This will include regular staff breastfeeding education
6. The RM Lactation Support will report to and update the Midwifery Unit Manager on progression of BFHI
7. The role will also require membership of the SDMH BFHI Working Party and representation of SDMH lactation on other local health district committees
8. The Maternity Unit is a very busy area and team work is a vital component of this role. It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to the high standard of care offered within Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital with regards to clinical practice, policy development, teaching and research
9. The successful candidate will be supported to upgrade to Clinical Midwifery Specialist Grade 1 on commencement of employment
