The Rockhampton Grammar School seeks a dedicated, experienced leader to serve as the Head of Boarding (Boys’). This full-time, residential position requires a dynamic, compassionate individual to lead, administer, and manage all aspects of Boys’ Boarding.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Boarding to support and implement the strategic vision for Boarding, ensuring quality outcomes and a positive experience for all students and staff.
This position commences in January 2025 and requires a qualified teacher with significant experience in both teaching and boarding. The Rockhampton Grammar School offers a competitive salary, plus super and benefits.
POSITION TITLE: Head of Boarding (Boys’)

REPORTS TO: Director of Boarding
BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for the leadership, administration and complete management of Boys’ Boarding.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Head of Boarding is responsible for the operational side of Boys’ Boarding. While routine matters are delegated to Heads of Year and Boarding Assistants, the responsibility of the Head of Boarding (Boys’) in conjunction with the Director of Boarding, is to lead by example and ensure that programmes are coordinated and implemented so that quality outcomes are achieved.
It is expected that the Head of Boarding:
Is a member of the teaching staff, teaching up to a maximum of 12 periods per week - teaching subjects in line with skills, qualification and experience.
Will be available at all times, within reason, to respond to duty staff and student needs, when they arise;
Communicate and develop positive relationships with all stakeholders in the Boarding Community;
Assist with the day-to-day administration;
Liaise with Heads of Year (Day School) and Head of Secondary School (Students) in all matters relating to boarders in the day school to effect a cohesive one-school approach;
Will attend regular boarding management meetings;
Contribute to the School’s co-curricular programme;
Ensure that academic and house reports are written, proof-read, and available for distribution by published deadlines;
Oversight and development of student management platform;
Prepare annual budget;
Include rostering of duties for staff in line with allocated budgetary requirements;
Liaise regularly with Heads of Year with regards to best practice and boarding policies and its implementation;
Attend promotional visits to the districts of boarder families from time to time;
Participate in the Safeguarding Children Committee;
Ensure school Workplace Health and Safety and Risk Management activities are met.
An overview of responsibilities include:
Staff
In support of the Director of Boarding, oversee boarding staff duties, with appropriate delegations for management and supervision;
Lead regular Head of Year Boarding meetings;
Provide leadership, coordination and general management of staff in the boarding houses;
Working closely with the boarding staff and delegating appropriate responsibilities;
Support and develop Boarding Staff to ensure professional growth and learning;
Manage performance issues for Boarding Staff, liaising as appropriate, with Director of Boarding and Human Resources;
Ensuring that all staff are familiar with Boarding Policies so they are implemented consistently.
Students
Overall responsibility for running a successful boarding programme;
Assist in the development of leadership and service amongst all boarders;
Oversight of boarding affairs including activities and events;
To be directly involved in a ‘hands on’ approach in supervision of boarders and their activities;
Manage disciplinary issues for students in the Boarding House, liaising as appropriate, with Director of Boarding, Leadership Staff, and the Headmaster;
Oversee administration of student records and Leave requests to ensure they are kept accurate;
Liaise with Food Service, Cleaning, Health Centre and Facilities, to ensure provision of high-quality product assurance.

Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The successful applicant will be subject to a “Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check” where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks, qualification check and professional registration checks.
REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE
Registered with Queensland College of Teachers (QCT);
ABSA Accredited Boarding Practitioner Certification (or willingness to obtain);
Police Check.
