The Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) provides a safe and supported short-stay residential environment to help young people aged 12-21 years manage their withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs and/or take time out from environmental influences and pressures.
Based in East Perth, the role requires a high alcohol and other drug (AOD) focus to support the DAYS Withdrawal services. You will be someone who has experience and initiative when working with young people participating in rehabilitation who often face complex issues. Using your knowledge of current youth issues to connect and engage with the young people using the service to support them to progress toward achieving their goals.
The service supports a 7 day, 24 hour rotating roster with a combination of day and overnight shifts. Most weeks will be 4 days on and 3 days off.
Your Key Responsibilities
* Induct young people to the service advising them of the requirements and their rights and responsibilities
* Develop relationships with young people adhering to boundaries of care practice, endeavouring to understand and interpret their behaviour, thus influencing positive attitudinal and behavioural change
* Assist with meal preparation and proration
* Monitor clients’ personal care and hygiene and provide guidance to improve life skills
* Collaborate with the team in the care and management of young people who exhibit challenging behaviour
* Facilitate educational groups and recreational activities
* Support young people to self-administer medications
* Informal counselling
Requirements for Success
With a significant background in the child, youth & family, and AOD sectors, you will be confident in your assessment processes and trauma-informed practices. Other requirements include:
* A degree in Social Welfare or a minimum of Certificate IV in community services with at least three years’ experience in a similar role
* Demonstrated experience providing support and crisis intervention in an AOD role
* Strong knowledge of behaviour management and capacity to set boundaries and limits in a residential setting
* You must be available for 12-hour shifts covering a 7 day roster (combination of night and day shifts)
* The ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to provide positive outcomes
* Demonstrated professional approach to maintaining professional boundaries
* Must have a full driver licence with no restrictions
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
